A designer first, Sherra Bell has been a business consultant, creative recruiter, and career coach to designers for over two decades. Having become an initially reluctant entrepreneur out of necessity in 2001, her only choice has ever been to build a business on the resilience of turning challenges into opportunities.
As the current Presidents Council Chair and former AIGA Atlanta President, Sherra has a long history of serving and advocating for the design community through AIGA. Since her first experience serving as the founding Treasurer for a student group with AIGA memberships at Auburn University in the fall of 1988 soon after the AIGA Atlanta chapter was formed and before student groups were even officially recognized, Sherra remains committed to the organization.
Locally, she has served in the Director roles of Membership, Sponsorship, Education as well as Vice President/President/President Emeritus and multiple terms as Portfolio Reviewer, Mentorship Mentor and Advisor to the Mentorship Chair. In addition to organizing events locally, she has also been a speaker and workshop facilitator for various chapter events throughout the US.
Building on her social justice background, Sherra is passionate about helping designers develop the leadership skills and authority to prosper as esteemed consultants in every environment and under every economic condition. She believes in the equal partnership of local chapters and national initiatives as the most effective means to use volunteerism as practice for developing community leaders capable of impact. She does not believe AIGA has yet realized its full potential in this area.
Personal Statement
I've spent the better part of 35 years in some sort of leadership capacity promoting and serving AIGA's mission. I'm VERY concerned about its future given our current direction. I'd welcome the chance to continue to put all that I've learned both inside and outside of it to the service of ensuring future sustainability through continued volunteer engagement that leads to the development of leaders and advocacy for the profession.
I can't promise I won't be contrarian but I will promise that I don't take uniformed contrary positions for sport. If I'm fighting for something, it's worth the fight.
